The He ʻŌlelo Ola, Hilo Field Study is an opportunity to experience firsthand the
efforts being made to revitalize the Hawaiian language using Hawaiian as the
medium of formal education from the infant toddler level all the way to college
degrees.
Visits will be conducted to the Hilo ʻAha Pūnana Leo program, the
Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu kindergarten - high school Hawaiian medium program and
the Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani College of Hawaiian Language degree programs
up to a PhD and Hawaiian immersion teacher licensing program Kahuawaiola.
The theme for the He ʻŌlelo Ola Hilo Field Study is, ʻO Ka ʻŌlelo Ke Kaʻā O Ka
Mauli, Language Binds Us To Our Cultural Identity.
Registration for the He ʻŌlelo Ola, Hilo Field Study is separate from the ICLDC registration.
