Program

There will be seven half-day sessions, with both contributed and invited talks scheduled in a way that allows plenty of time for open discussion.  Abstracts will be accepted via online submission through the meeting website.  Instructions will be provided in the Second Announcement (in January 2013). The abstract deadline is May 1, 2013.

Events

We are planning two social events as part of the workshop:

Sunday June 23 Opening Reception / Buffet Dinner / no-host bar, 8-10pm
Wednesday, June 26 Closing Sunset Conference Buffet Dinner, 5-10pm

In coordination with CD8, the 3rd Workshop on Binaries in the Solar System will be held at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel from June 30 – July 2, 2013. By scheduling these two workshops back-to-back, we ensure that each meeting retains its own identity, while making it cost efficient for participants wanting to attend both workshops. For more information about the Binaries workshop, contact Bill Merline at [email protected].

Finally, we will organize two optional field trips (for additional cost). The first will be to Mauna Kea, one of the best astronomical observing sites in the world. This trip will take place on Friday, June 28, and will include tours of some of the telescope facilities and a chance to explore the summit area. The second field trip will be a 2-day excursion to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, where the Kilauea volcano has been continuously active since 1983. To accommodate participants from both the CD8 and Binaries workshops, the Volcanoes field trip will be offered twice: June 22 – 23 (preceding CD8) and July 3 – 4 (following the Binaries workshop).
